Saved by the grace of God in February, 1993, and called to ministry in the fall of the same year, Pastor Steve left behind the family farm in Fort Payne, Alabama to follow God’s path for him. That path led through a youth internship in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Later that path would lead him into full-time youth and music ministries in Alabama and Virginia. In January, 2000, he left to attend Southeastern Bible College in Wake Forest, North Carolina, where he served as youth and music minister while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies. There, he met his sweet wife, Dawn, in the fall of 2003. They married in May, 2004, and now have two children, Samuel and Sarah Grace.
While at Southeastern, he recognized God’s preparation and calling to bi-vocational pastoral ministry and served in that role for a short while in Rainsville, Alabama. God’s leading was back to school to earn a Master’s Degree at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. While there, Steve and Dawn enjoyed serving at Calvary Baptist in Seymour, Indiana. After Samuel was born in 2008, Steve and Dawn moved back to Alabama with their growing family (Sarah Grace was on the way) to be nearer their aging parents. They moved to the Gadsden area and served in churches in Attalla and Fort Payne until God opened the door in January, 2016, to serve His congregation at Steele Baptist where they simply feel “at home.”
Pastor Steve serves today bi-vocationally and has a small excavation business while Dawn works as a financial advisor. They have a heart for missions and have been involved in many mission trips around the country and the world through the years.
Pastor Steve’s vision for Steele Baptist Church is to see it become the center of the community, being actively involved in ministering to the surrounding community in diverse ways. Support and involvement in missions, from local to international, is a direction that SBC is moving towards. Finding new ways to reach the world around us, near and far, with the gospel of Jesus is the heartbeat of Steele Baptist Church.

Heidi was raised in a military family that moved every few years. She has lived in Germany, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Virginia, Arizona, and finally Alabama. She first moved to Steele in 1995 at the age of 15. She remembers Mrs. Lorraine Smith inviting her many times to come to church, but she never went, even though her family's home was located so that she had to pass the church every day.
Heidi joined the United States Air Force at age 19 and moved away, serving as an F-16 crew chief at Luke Air Force Base, Phoenix, Arizona. Once her 4-year enlistment was up, she did not reenlist and stayed in Arizona, where she was involved in a worldly lifestyle for a time, before she was saved. After she was saved in Arizona, she returned to Alabama in 2007 to try to rebuild her life. She began attending Steele Baptist Church and was baptized here at age 31. She is faithful in attendance, is serving as our Nursery Director, and is very involved in our Children's Ministry.
She and Jon-Paul Posey were married September 6, 2011, and together they have 3 daughters, and 1 granddaughter.
Penny is originally from Ohio. Prior to making a permanent move to Alabama in 2007, she had lived at Fort Rucker in Dale County, Alabama. She has also lived in Kansas, Germany and Korea. Penny has four children, two sons and two daughters, 16 grandchildren (plus spouses), and 10 great-grandchildren (4 girls and 6 boys).
Penny was saved at age 12 in Fairborn, Ohio and was a member of Albany First Baptist Church. She began attending Steele Baptist Church in 2016 and became a member April 8, 2018. On October 23, 2019, she began working as our Church Secretary.
Bill grew up in central Mississippi and was educated there in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Marketing. He moved to Alabama in 1990. He and his wife Jan have been married since 1967. They have two children, Chris and Robin. Chris is a pastor and teacher in Missouri and Robin is a teacher in Alabama. Bill is retired and he and Jan live in Southside.
Bill accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 13 and has been a follower of Christ ever since. He and Jan became members of Steele Baptist Church in 2003. Through the years Bill has served on several committees in the church. He and Jan faithfully update the messages on the church sign. He serves as an Usher and is active on the House and Grounds Committee. In 2020, Bill was ordained as a Deacon.
Bill desires to go into the community to share the plan of salvation and invite people to Steele Baptist Church. He wants lost and unchurched people to know Jesus loves them, our church family loves them, and they are always welcomed at our church.
Dawn was born and raised in Huntsville, AL to loving parents Ken & Linda Williamson. They taught her about the love and importance of family and friends. Though she and her family did not attend church in her early years, God revealed himself to her at an early age. She has always felt the Lord was present throughout her life and loves Him first and foremost. The Lord blessed her with a family who took care of her after school during her elementary school years. She was blessed to see how a Christian lived out the message of Christ throughout this time with them. Gaile & Buddy Peake had a huge impact on her spiritually during these young years of her life. Later when Dawn was in middle school, she attended their Bible Doctrine church. Mrs. Peake was her Sunday School Teacher and taught her strong foundational principals from the Bible and started with who God was to her and how to forgive others. The two scriptures that laid a strong foundation in the Lord were: "God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him" 1 John 4:16 and "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1 John 1:8-9. In Dawn's eighth grade year, she was bullied by classmates and past friends. It was at this point in Dawn's life she realized that Jesus was there for her when it seemed as though the world was against her. She realized when she felt like she had no friends, that Jesus was there and her friend and her relationship with the Lord deepened and strengthened from that point forward. The Lord began to birth a strong prayer life in her answering prayers of faith in a way only God could do. This greatly increased her faith. In time, the Lord called her in her adulthood to be a part of a thriving prayer ministry at Willowbrook Baptist church. She began to serve in a leadership role as the Prayer Coordinator over the Watchman Prayer Ministry as well as within the Singles Ministry there until she married the love of her life Pastor Steve Lucy and they moved to Fort Payne. Since then, Dawn & Steve have served in several churches where Steve was a bi-vocational pastor. Dawn enjoys serving in various ministries within the churches they have served in together. Her greatest service is serving her husband as his helpmate and their two children Samuel and Sarah Grace. Currently, Dawn serves as the Pre-teen Director, Ladies Ministry Leader and is part of the Media team at Steele Baptist Church. Dawn has a heart for children and preteen ministry, ladies & prayers ministry and outreach. The Lucy's have enjoyed serving Steele community and church since January 2016.
Lorraine, also known as "Miss" Lorraine, has been a part of Steele Baptist Church for over 64 years. Her parents, Pete and Blakey Wicks, were active members of our church, so Lorraine actually attended before she was born! She was saved at age nine, was baptized, and became a member of Steele Baptist. Lorraine has spent at least 34 years working in various capacities in our children’s department.
Lorraine has a special love for children, music, and baking, and has a bakery business "Edible Memories." She is a choir member and soloist.
She fondly remembers her days as a child and youth at Steele Baptist Church and all of the love that was poured into her life and into the lives of other children by faithful leaders...Sunday School teachers, VBS teachers, her youth leaders, Lee and Dot Gilliland, summer camps and the list goes on.
She also remembers the wonderful, sweet lady, Mrs. Dot, who lovingly took her under her “motherly wing” and taught her how to “love on children!"
Lorraine and her husband Wayne were married September 27, 1974 and they reside in Steele.
She desires to see children and their families become involved in our church family here at SBC and come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
